Red Wigglers worms (EF) for Organic Gardening, Composting or bird food.ReviewsI very much appreciated the emails telling me when to expect the worms since the weather is hot. They are doing great! I gave these to my grandma for her birthday for her garden. The package came and I checked to see if they came alive all of them were alive and there were so many. We put them in her garden and we check on them every week and they are still there. They came on time alive and still doing well. Highly recommend worms. And they have us lots of information about worms. I ordered these worms during a bad heat spell, upper 90's every day. I was afraid that they may not survive the trip and they didn't, even though they arrived quickly. I contacted the seller and let them know about the condition of the order. They immediately responded and promised to reship or refund. I chose to try reshipping. The replacement order of worms survived the heat and all of them were alive and well. The customer service was very fast and friendly. The worms were healthy and in great shape. I couldn't have hoped or asked for better service. When I received an email from "vermipostpro" explaining when to expect my worms they shipped I knew I was dealing with a good company. Worms arrived 2-3 days after receiving email in perfect condition. We (wife and I) followed their suggestions on handling new worms and they are now eating compostable goods! Looking forward to sending less stuff to the recyclers. The first shipment of worms took a little longer than expected and, when it arrived, they were mostly dead. The business made a lot of effort to make sure that I got a good batch of worms and I am very pleased with the second box sent! Average Rating:![]() |

Price is per pound of red wigglers. Our red wigglers are home grown in bins and compost heaps on our property. They winter well and reproduce rapidly. Your worm population should double every 90-days or so, given enough food and moisture... |

Monterey Sluggo Snail & Slug Control For Organic Gardening - 2.5 lb Shaker Bottle LG6500ReviewsWorks great. Sprinkled on the ground where ever I saw snails and watched their numbers shrink day by day. It was about 3 days before I couldn't find any. Also, for any pet owners considering purchasing Sluggo, I can confirm it is pet safe. Our four month old Corgi puppy eats everything in the yard, and I mean everything. Even though Sluggo is pet safe, I still did my best to keep him away from it, but I know he did sneak over and eat some and it didn't seem to bother him at all. OMG! My garden was FULL of slugs. We tried the "beer" method, but this did not work. Decided to try Sluggo. Sprinkled it everywhere in my garden, and haven't seen a slug since! I highly recommend this product! I had tried trays of beer, physical barriers, and manually picking the slugs off the plants to keep the slugs out of the garden, all to no avail. I sprinkled this stuff over the entire area, and in a couple days... there are no more slugs on the plants, and TONS of dead slugs around the edges of the garden. Great stuff! Now maybe I will actually get some peppers this year. I received this product but haven't had a chance to use it. I did receive it in a timely manner and in good condition. I purchased this product after taking an organic gardening course. If I could talk to insects, I would try to garner a peace agreement ... to coexist without interference. Since I can't do that, I've decided to judiciously use environmentally friendly methods of pest control. This product was mentioned during the course and I hope that it will work. So far, it seems to be doing well. I also tried beer traps (beer in tuna cans) and those worked surprisingly well. So, I would recommend this product and if you use beer traps, too, your slug problems will decrease significantly. Average Rating:![]() |

AeroGarden 9419-00Z 9419-00Z Replacement Grow Sponges for Garden Starter TrayReviewsFinally, a replacement grow sponge that works. These sponges come in packs of 70, and are exactly the right size for replacing those highly overpriced seed pods for my AeroGarden 6 Elite. And as a bonus, the seller threw in a free package of those all so important nute tabs! Don't throw away your used seed pods; simply recycle the little plastic cone-shaped baskets by inserting a new grow sponge. Tuck your own seed into the little "dimple" at the top of the sponge, push it into the plastic cone and you're good to go. For clones, split the sponge halfway down with a razor and tuck the bottom of your shoot securely into the sponge before pushing it into your cone. Proceed as you normally would for growing stuff in your AeroGarden 6 Elite. For some reason the AeroGarden catalog only sells the short fat replacement sponges that go with their older model gardens, such as AeroGarden 7. (AeroGarden is a fabulous product, but they charge nearly TWENTY DOLLARS (!) for six seed pods??---Please!) Work great for their purpose, but you can make it yourself. You could get the same thing by just cutting up some sponges and it is essentially the same thing. I haven't tried that though. And you would not want to use commercial sponges if you are going to eat the plants. I'm sure these are good for their intended use, but they don't seem to fully fill the used pods like some people said. Like other reviewers I am just going to cut the lower part off and use them. I'm a little unsure how to rate this item since I am no using it for the intended purpose. I have included a picture. Product worked great with my AeroGarden it was a little cheaper getting it from Amazon than the AeroGarden website. I would recommend it. I have 3 7-pod aerogardens and wanted these to start 'clippings' from my herb plants. These sponges arrived in good shape and in great time, however, they are longer than the plastic 'pod casing' as well as thinner. I place the plastic pod in the garden, add the grow sponge and it tips over to one side while sticking up from the floor of the garden almost 3/4". (So, I thought if I wet them first they might expand to fit the plastic pod casing correctly, but that didn't do anything other than make a wet, soppy mess). I had to cut it with scissors and use the cut piece to cut even more and fit around the pod casing to steady it upright. Had to be careful, also, so the smaller 'stuffing' pieces don't fall through the plastic pod openings into the water below. The small indentation in the top center for placement of seeds/clippings is almost a waste of time: had to slit that deeper also just to accommodate a few seeds. I didn't dare attempt an actual 'clipping' because it would never fit without breaking the stem. What a mess. Had they been cheaper, I would trash them. And with this extra work and mess, they should be less expensive! Three stars mostly for Amazon's prompt delivery, but as far as the product is concerned, maybe 1/2 star. Average Rating:![]() |

Food Beware: The French Organic RevolutionReviewsAlthough the basic idea of this documentary was great, it never lived up to its possibilities. To it's credit, it sported some good clips, valid statistics and a great role model for proactive city counsels. Unfortunately it was also choppy, individual threads of action and progression difficult to follow. There were no clear outlines for other communities looking to follow this example and the storylines developed slowly and out of joint with one another. All things considered, there are vastly better documentaries available regardless of which aspect of this story appeals to you. Fans of Michael Pollen - the author who is fighting to overturn agribusiness in favor of local organic food - will be attracted to this lovely film which "rings the alarm" that pesticide laden meat and produce are dangerous to our lives. Since I worked many years ago in the Pesticide Accident Division of the EPA, I wholeheartedly agree that pesticides are a menace that should be avoided if alternative ways of growing food are possible. This film says YES to that question. I began my title by praising the Mayor of Barjac, France who is a small time politician of a town in the South of France who insisted that the schoolchildren of his village be fed "organic food" and only "organic food" in the school cafeteria. The meals are creative and appear to be delicious. The Mayor even insists that the children participate in a school garden and grow the vegetables themselves. I think he is courageous and right. In the film, he insists it is a matter of conscience. Let that experiment begin here. My favorite segment of the movie was one where there were two wine vineyards - side by side - one in which pesticides were used and one where they were absent. The soil where pesticides and fertilizers were used was dead soil. The organic soil - just a few feet away - was living soil (clumpy, dark, and full of worms). That says it all to me. Let's go back to living soil and living life! Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RBKPWEF2FYCL "Food Beware" is an important media tool for raising awareness of the toxicity of our food, and the healthy alternatives. A handful of chemical companies and agribusiness firms currently dominate the global food system; not through a free market, but through subsidies, massive marketing campaigns, lobbyists who corrupt representative democracy, etc. "Food Beware" gives us a tour that stretches from an international conference on sustainable agriculture, to the lunchroom of an elementary school in France. This documentary underscores the hazards that come from spraying millions of gallons of toxic chemicals on crops. There are several scenes of farmers in biohazard suits spraying their fields, and we hear from farmers who regularly become ill when preparing the pesticides/insecticides/herbicides/fungicides. In one scene, the mayor of this town brings together organic and conventional farmers to dialogue about transforming their community's food system. One of the many hopeful aspects of this film is how it follows the development of an "edible schoolyard" Edible Schoolyard: A Universal Idea. The kids enjoy the process of planting and harvesting; and the school's teachers, cooks and parents take pride in the effort to nourish their children and lessen their exposure to various carcinogens, endocrine disruptors, and other ingredients of corporatized agriculture The Hundred-Year Lie: How to Protect Yourself from the Chemicals That Are Destroying Your Health. Maybe "Food Beware" is not as stylish as related documentaries such as Food, Inc. and How to Save the World, but it is a very thoughtful production on a critically important issue. Plus, it gives a concrete example of how communities can create a food system that puts people (and entire ecosystems) before profits. [...] "Food Beware: The French Organic Revolution" Growing Healthy Amos Lassen There is a tremendous rise in disease which seem to be connected to factors in our environment while at the same time we are eating more healthy than ever before. In "Food Beware" we go to a small French village and it is there that we learn that the mayor's wife has made the school lunch program both organic and locally grown. Not everyone agrees with this and we have a section of interviews in which we learn how the food industry is in ways related to the abuses that our bodies have suffered. Agriculture is big business with its own vested interests and when we think about it, we realize that this big business is ruled by the almighty dollar. The film assumes that pesticides are what are causing cancer in children but it offers no proof. It is not only pesticides that cause cancer and this was unfortunately not stated. What the film really does is to indict the viewer for raising children who are the first generation to eat less nutritious foods than their parents. It is a call for organic food and away from anything that has been tainted by pesticides. The film concentrates on children and we see how they eat. I found the film to be way too long and entirely too repetitive but otherwise it is an eye opener. Average Rating:![]() |

Organic Gardening Made EasyReviewsThis movie was very informative and is done in a way that even someone with no knowledge of gardening (like myself) was able to understand. I cant wait to try Lee's ways of gardening. Lee O'hara also puts his information as in website and email address on it for anyone that has questions about organic gardening and I have asked him more than a few and he has answered everyone of them and made sure that I understood what he meant. He also has a movie that is strictly on growing tomatoes, it is called The organic tomato. I look forward to more dvds on organic gardening by him. This is a great DVD, I really like the fact that it is all organic and all are easy methods to follow. I have followed his instructions and now I have been harvesting lettuce, bock choi, spinach mustard and other winter greens. I also have to add that I have been writting him a lot with questions when I started planting my veggies and he responded to all my questions and gave me great tips. Great Dvd if you are thinking of starting your own veggie patch and don't have lots of room to grow. Also try the organic tomato, there are a lot of good tips there as well. This has to be the best gardening video of any kind that I've seen. At my garden store we've watched it dozens of times and it's totally a staff favorite. Lee's informative and easygoing style is fantastic. I think it should be in everyone's collection. The video is chaptered by category, or can be watched straight through. There are sections on methods for different vegetables, amending soil, organic pest and disease control, simple irrigation...he covers everything. There's even a tomato eating dog. The video is shot in Lee's California backyard where he has fed a soil that would make anyone outside Alaska envious. It is a simple production, but is of good quality. Picture and sound are fine and the DVD plays perfectly for us. Anyone with an interest in organic or sustainable gardening/agriculture can learn something from this video, even if it's just that taking time to feed the birds seems to make for a happier life (Lee has songbirds that fly in to eat out of hand). Victory Gardens DVD (1944) WWII Gardening TipsReviewsYes, this DVD is short at 20 minutes. But it is surprisingly packed with useful information covering a variety of garden areas. I first watched this video for free on the Internet. But liked it so much, I bought the DVD. Its nostalgic value alone is well worth the nominal cost of the DVD. And my thanks to those that have memorialized such historic footage from our past. This was nothing more than a promo for folks to start their own Victory Gardens during the War years. Too short, not enuf info given on methods. Average Rating:![]() |
