Hydrofarm CK64050 Germination Station with Heat MatReviewsI've been using this for a couple of months. The only problem I've had, is that condensation on the dome will leak out when you move the tray. Other than that, it works well and is priced well. I dont think I would pay much more for this than a regular heat mat - the value in this product is the heat mat. The only reason I bought this one was it was less expensive than most other heat mats. The mat works fine, and the germination station is handy, but it is just a cheap plastic container. Having said that, I dont know if you need much more than that to germinate plants, so I wouldnt consider that a con. I find that convenience often outweighs the quality or even usability of the product. The thought that you could just place your plants out of sight out of mind while some miraculous grow kit does the work for you is an ideal based on nonsense. If it was that easy, there wouldn't be instructions. I have found that warmth assists in germination over 40 years of gardening. But I don't buy a dedicated germination kit. The standard seeding kits available for $3.00 are fine. I have one I like for the windowsill, not because I love the brand or soil it contains, but because it FITS ON THE WINDOWSILL!! That makes it convenient for me and agreeable to the wife. Heating pads are kind of silly. The cost is ridiculous and, if you really want to heat your seedlings, then put an electric blanket or throw under them. You can get a single blanket electric or throw for about $20 and you can sit like 6 of these starter trays on them and warm them all with a totally reusable unit. I did notice that when on the electric blanket, the seedlings start a bit earlier. And if in a colder area (basement/attic) the blanket was essential to get them to kick into gear. But the blanket is huge and you can cover a much wider starting area. If you want a smaller area, fold the blanket. Low temp is usually enough to keep my kit around 70, but your environment may be different. Don't put either outside in 20 degree weather or you will get chilling results. At any rate, these warming seed starting kits are a waste of money. If you have absolutely no sun exposure or are starting so many you can't keep them in the house on a window sill or near any window, then get a heating blanket and a grow light. Much cheaper in the long run. Although it may seem a little over priced, it is the convenience that you pay for. The product is exactly what it shows, a plastic tub with a plastic top, plastic dirt moldings, and a heating pad. If you think about the price of the heating pad that fits perfectly with the container, it is well worth the while. In addition, I have had success with this product. I grow indoor coffee, and I have received a much quicker germination rate; as well as being healthier. Furthermore, it gives you great control of not only temperature, but humidity. In my opinion, that is a major plus. I spent months trying to sprout different kinds of seeds, from brugmansias to palms...with a very low success rate. Then I decided to give this product a try and I finally began to see the results!! The constant heat is a must. I have also bought the big dome station which I prefer for its space and included ventilation on top. I'm really happy with these items. If handled with care they will last over and over. AeroGarden 900211-1200 3 with 3-Pod English Garden Flowers Seed Kit, WhiteReviewsI bought this item for my wife for Christmas. Following instructions, the seeds came up, and then turned light green, withered, and died. We have done as the instructions said, and are quite unhappy with the results. We would be willing to give it another try if we could get additional English Garden seed pods, as we originally bought. We are mature, in our 70's, and not used to complaining, but this kit is certainly not up to expectation. Gene Lehman It is a fine product if you don't want to deal with dirt and seeds. It is easy to set up, and not much attention is needed after setting up the system. You can also switch to different seed kit using the same system. It works like a dream! Small enough for apartments but gives you wonderful results. New pods and replacements are easy to find, so you can always have a small indoor garden year-round. I received an Aerogarden 3 for Mother's Day and my daughter-in-law saw it and just loved it. So when her birthday came around, I got one for her and she is thrilled! I bought a packet of tomatoes separately since they are one of her favorites. So I got this as a gift for my dad and the first one came DOA (the air pump did not work) once I got the second one I followed all of the instructions on the kit and yes, the flower started to grow, but as time passed it started to rot and eventually all of them died I would not recommend this product Average Rating:![]() |

Straight Eight Cucumber 400 SeedsReviewsI started late this year so I was debating whether or not to grow seeds and hope they worked or buy more expensive plants and just maintain them. I obviously bought seeds...and glad I did. I laid these about every 6 inches thinking I wouldnt have all of them grow. Needless to say EVERY single one took. Its been just under 2 weeks since I've planted them and they're already 4-5 inches off the ground and have produced 3 big leaves. I planted them in organic humus/manure mix, top soil and natural dirt on hills and I can't honestly see how these plants could get any bigger in 2 weeks. I planted other veggies as well but these seem to be doing the best. Average Rating:![]() |

AeroGrow AeroGarden with Gourmet Herb Seed KitReviewsi've wanted one of these since i saw it in an overpriced kitchen store last summer. i don't seem to have any luck growing herbs from seed and keeping them alive. this neat little machine had the seeds started in no time at all. some of the plants grow faster than others, but i've just been trimming them down to let others catch up. working very well so far! i find it wonderful to have fresh herbs at hand in the winter. i just set it up less than four weeks ago and i already got to use my basil. the only thing is to set the light timer to go off around bed time. it is incredibly bright!! I'm sorry to read so many have had problems with their AeroGarden. I have had mine for a year and have absolutely loved it. My first crop was herbs, all of which grew beautifully and abundant. My current crop is garden flowers and the flowers are lush and pouring out of the unit. Really lovely in the dead of winter! I guess it never occurred to me how long the unit would last; I hope it will last some time. In that respect, if the unit only lasted a year, I wouldn't replace it as they certainly aren't cost-effective to purchase over and over. I use well-filtered water and followed the directions to grow herbs and then salad greens. both have failed. why? white fuzz aka fungus/mold. even tried to pull out any seed casings or seeds that did not sprout to avoid the mold. kept water levels high at all times. even added hydrogen peroxide to the reservoir. failed!! called support at aerogrow and they said they cant do anything about it except send another seed kit and I should disinfect the system again. did disinfect with hydrogen peroxide not bleach for my second planting. very disappointing...salad greens look like they are limp and dying. roots are becoming brown. mold is greatly reduced however salad greens look sick and dying. will try to plant my third set of seeds after using chlorine bleach this time. very frustrating. no clear answers. would not recommend purchasing the aerogrow. i unfortunately stuck with the pro200. Fast growing, fresh produce that you know is safe to eat. Pennies a day for water and electricity. You can even use your own seeds. Could not be easier. No green thumb required. The AeroGarden works well and I am happy with my plants. It is, as another review commented, a bit noisy. My three star rating is not because of the product, but because the company's customer service is basically non-existent. If you have a problem with the product, forget about getting any support. They don't answer their phones, they don't return calls, and they don't respond to email. Average Rating:![]() |

Beethoven's 2ndReviewsI bought this as a gift to give my down syndrome niece. She has watched it so many times and she has favorite parts that make her laugh. Great movie. i just want to say that i know that my daughter will like this. she has them all on vhs. now that she has a dvd player she wanted me to get them on dvd's for her It's not often you can say a sequel is better than the original, but I prefer Beethoven's 2nd to the original. It's probably because I saw it at a certain age, what with Ryce discovering boys, I really identified with it. (Even though I couldn't get a boy to look twice at me back then.) This movie pretty much sticks to the same formula as the original, with Beethoven the main focus - Beethoven gets a girlfriend, Beethoven doesn't use contraception, Beethoven becomes a daddy, Beethoven becomes a single daddy, Beethoven gets girlfriend back. You've heard it all before haven't you? There's a couple of silly & forgettable subplots here - Missy's mistress (try saying that when you've had a couple!), Ryce's potential boyfriend, the brother's potential love interest, and the Newtons' air freshener thing. Really, there's not much else to say about it. It's a happy movie, it's sweet, and then you'll put it away until the next time you see a St Bernard. The movie is corny, implausible and poorly acted, but the puppies are incredibly cute! Little kids will love this movie if just for the puppies. If you have young children you want to keep entertained, Beethovens' 2nd will hold their attention. Afterwards, your kids will probably start bugging you to get them a puppy. Now that the lovable St. Bernard Beethoven is enjoying life with his new masters, the Newtons,he begins to start a family of his own, biologically. Beethoven impregnates a female St. Bernard named Missy and the canine couple sire four puppies. One of is named Tchaikovsky, after another late classical music great. First,George Newton(Charles Grodin) objects to Beethoven in the Newtons' home, then objects to the mutt's offsprings. The Newton family agreed to find homes for the puppies after they've grown. George's wife Alice(Bonnie Hunt) is now working with her husband at his air freshener factory. One memorable scene is where the Newtons take a vacation up in the mountains, with Beethoven in tow,of course. Missy belongs to a mean-spirited young woman named Regina(Debi Mazar) who is going through a divorce. After the divorce is final,Regina's now-ex-husband is granted sole custody of Missy. The ex-hubby and Missy visit the Newtons in the last scene. This film would one of Grodin's last. Subsequently,he co-starred with Martin Short in CLIFFORD. Grodin's previous films include SEEMS LIKE OLD TIMES,IT'S MY TURN,MIDNIGHT RUN and TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS. Average Rating:![]() |

Green Tea exfoliating soap with apricot seed - 3 barsReviewsThis is wonderful soap, smalls great, lathers a lot, and really exfoliates. Other soaps don't dig in and scrub (in a good way) as this one. My only beef, and the only thing that keeps this from 5 stars is the bars are too large when new, very square and not as easy to use until the bar's wear down. Then its a 5 star product. OPTIONAL SEED PLATE SET-5/SETReviewsDelivery was fast, packaged well, seems to be a good product, will use it for spring garden. I was given an Earthway seeder. It only had one plate and we wanted to plant a large plot with soybeans to imrove the soil. The seeder seemed like it would be the fastest way to plant the field and maintain rows, etc. The plates did fit the seeder You can't really talk about these plates without talking about the seeder. Many people swear by them. I didn't have much luck. I had 1/10th acre of fresh tilled ground. It was kind of lumpy. Before using the seeder you need to make the seed bed as smoothe as possible. Being a freshly converted meadow, it would have taken much repeated tilling, a disk harrow and a lot more work than I was willing to put in. The seeds need to remain dry, and the seeder needs to be constantly monitored to ensure seeds are being picked up and dropped by the seeder. Under ideal conditions this might have worked well. Under my conditions it was more trouble than it was worth. Average Rating:![]() |

Seed to Seed: Seed Saving and Growing Techniques for Vegetable GardenersReviewsI just purchased this book and in thumbing through it I was stunned by the breadth and depth of the material. A perfect companion for long winter evenings and garden dreaming. I have been growing herbs and vegetables for years. Each year I learn a little more and my garden gets a little bigger. I grow organic and heirloom plant and this year I decided to learn about seed saving. People have saved and traded their seeds forever but so many of us have gotten used to buying packing, I didn't realize that I don't have to do that for plants I'm already growing. Plus, when you save your best seeds you're actually improving your seeds for your own growing area. This wonderful book will tell you everything you need to know about saving and keeping your own seeds. She has sections for every type of plant and gives you detailed information on how to save them. You'll save money and your seeds will grow better too. "Seed to Seed" is the best book to pick up and read if you want to learn how to CORRECTLY save seed for future crops. It has become our Seed Saving Group's bible when teaching others and for personal use. GREAT--JUST THE BEST THERE IS! Highly recommend this to anyone who wants to start their own seed bank! For anyone learning to save their own seeds to become more self sufficient or to keep heirloom variety seeds, this book has everything you need to know! This book is great for someone who knows nothing or very little of heirloom gardening. It is very precise, and a little repetitive(but in a good, reinforcing way). You can look up any particular plant by alphabetical order or just read it straight through. There are lots of pictures and plenty more descriptions and explanations. I could not reccomend this book strongly enough. I was not completely ignorant of gardening, but have learned so much about record keeping, to seed saving, and even that potato plants produce a small seed pod fruit, filled with seeds that may each grow a different variety of potato. This book is written in an encyclopedic format, so it is direct and straight to the point. Average Rating:![]() |

Kristen Suzanne's EASY Raw Vegan Dehydrating: Delicious & Easy Raw Food Recipes for Dehydrating Fruits, Vegetables, Nuts, Seeds, Pancakes, Crackers, Breads, Granola, Bars & WrapsReviewsI bought two books in Kristen Suzanne's series and while the recipes look good, I have to agree with other reviewers who've pointed out how repetitive the series format is for these books. Almost the entire first half of each book is an introductory guide to the raw vegan lifestyle. Had these books been offered at half the price they are, this might have seemed an appropriate format for a series like this. But each one of these books is nearly as costly as other, more thorough books on preparing raw vegan food. Certainly once you've spent the money to buy a few of the books in this series, you should have something that amounts to more than an intro and the last few pages of each. I always get such great ideas from Kristen's books. I've used this one alot. I've had my dehydrator for awhile and don't use it that often, but since getting this book, I've been making more dehydrated goodies. I like the extra tips included in the book about dehydrating different types of foods and how to store them. Kristen is just so creative with her recipes and I've loved everything I've tried from this book. Another thing I like about Kristen's books is they are straightfoward and leave out all the fluff and unnecessary pictures. I know she did this to keep the books affordable and accessible, which I think is very cool. Not every raw fooder has $35 to spend on a cookbook, afterall. All in all, her books are a great value and loaded with original ideas and valuable information - I'd recommend them to anyone! First, I have most of Kristen's books. She provides good basic info in each of her books, valuable if you're new to RAW Uncooking. On the downside, the books don't have that many recipes. Instead of offering one complete book with all her recipes, they are in a small book series. It is pricey to get all of them. However, there are a few recipes in each of them, that I will make often. Kristen's recipes are creative and some of them different from other books. That is why I purchased most of her books. Also, there are no pictures inside any of the books. She gives her site that a person must go to, to see pictures of her food. For the price of the series, that isn't great. Overall, the series format seems a mistake. The recipes are good. This book was perfect because it gave me lots of tips and ideas for using my new dehydrator. When I first saw this recipe book I knew the Raw Pancakes pictured on the cover would be the first recipe I tried. They were hands down the best pancakes I have ever eaten! The fruit leather turned out amazing, and because it was so easy, is something I plan on making often. The best part about this book was how easy the recipes were to follow, and all of the ingredients that I needed were easily found at my local health food store! Owning a dehydrator and knowing how to incorporate it into your 'raw' lifestyle are 2 different things. All Kristen's ebooks contain the basics that you need to know if you are just starting out, and this book in no exception. I love experimenting even more with the helpful hints and tips as well as the mouthwatering recipes Kristen has given, which give you the confidence to dehydrate to your hearts content. Still working through the recipes, as I find I like to repeat them as the ones I have tried are just way too delicious to pass up for the next! Average Rating:![]() |

Living a Raw vegan lifestyle does NOT require dehydrating, which is why Kristen Suzanne's EASY Raw Vegan recipe books--other than this one--rarely call for dehydrating. But if you own a dehydrator, or if you are trying to decide whether or not to buy one, then this book is for you... |
