Sprouting Strainer Lid - Fits Most Wide-mouth Mason, Kerr & Ball Canning / Pickling Jars - Perfect to Use for Sprouts & Sprouting in Salads. Convert Any Standard Jar Into a Sprouter. Growing Sprouts Is Healthy & Fun.ReviewsI might have gotten a defective product, because mine does not drain. Water wont go in either. I tried pouring water into the jar (slowly) through the top and it pooled and spilled over the side. I tried to make sprouts and the water barley dripped out. I tilted it several different ways to drain and water just trickled out. The holes just seem too small. These are nice and work as intended. But the holes in the lid top are large enough for a fruit fly (and 100 of his friends) to squeeze through. Maybe you don't have fruit flies in your house. Maybe you do, like me. Personally I have not been freaked out too much by this, but I did cut some squares of cheese cloth to put under the lids. So I'm back to cheese cloth. So what did I buy these for? Well, I didn't know about the fruit fly issue. Nobody told me. So now you know. I have wide mouth Kerr jars and this fit perfectly! Just throw them and the jar into the dishwasher when done. Before buying this strainer lid I was using cheese cloth on top of my Mason jars. That was much more trouble than it was worth. These lids are a perfect fit and work well with the largest and smallest seeds/beans! Great product! A little slow on draining because of the nature of the plastic vs. stainless screen. But the advantages outweigh the disadvantages and I plan to buy 4 more. Average Rating:![]() |

The Handy Pantry Sprouting Lid fits most wide mouth mason jars. It's made of a durable food-grade plastic with mesh holes big enough to drain well but small enough to hold in tiny seeds such as alfalfa! Order more than one and rotate your crops every 3-4 days to make sure that you always have a steady supply of your favorite sprouts. |

AeroGarden 6-Pod Seed KitReviewsonly 4 of the 6 pods actually grew. the other two just molded. How old are these seeds? I have not been very happy with this product. The Basil is growing great but everything else has barely sprouted. I do think I will get much else other than the Basil. Love this product! Easy to use. Great results. Nice way to keep fresh greens handy. i set up my aero garden in december. i now have beautiful flowers growing in the middle of february. how cool is that? The aerogarden salad greens kit is phenomenal -- we planted ours on the 12/22 -- today is 1/11 -- and already it looks ready to be eaten!! Average Rating:![]() |

AeroGarden Seed KitReviewsSo far we have grown herbs, lettuce, tomatoes... always easy. Cleaning is easy. Purchased a 3rd party nutrient system and things really took off. I find it optimal to add water every other day, or some pods don't get enough. Otherwise, slam dunk! Great product, great company. Today is June 29th and I began this adventure on March 1st, 4 months ago and the production expectancy for this set. The sprouting was slow, but the CS Rep from AeroGrow suggested I be patient. He said they would really take off once they sprouted. Well, they did and we were off to the races. So far, 1 mini jalapeno and 1 purple super hot have bit the dust completely. The second mini jalapeno grew huge but never produced a single pepper. Two of the purple super hots are still alive, but have never even produced a flower either. Both of the red fires are lush and have produced a total of 10 peppers so far. Considering the cost of electricity, the kit, the extra nutrients which needed to be purchased because there are not enough included, the replacement light kit, and the hours upon hours of talking to, touching, fertilizing by movement and a tiny hand held fan (CSR's suggestion) These are the most expensive peppers I've ever consumed. I'm thinking of transplanting these into my garden plot to see if they ever produce. I have one more seed kit (herbs) which I'm going to give a try and then I'm going to give up on this, and I'm not going to buy another set of bulbs even though it's advised. If you want alot of leaves which you do not consume, then this is the seed kit for you. I, on the other hand, wanted something to use in the kitchen. This is growing fine but I have the 3 pod model and the tomato plant is so tall that it is burning itself on the light. It said this plant was compatible with the 3 pod model but I'm not so sure.... Only two of the seven herbs grew. I was not satisfied with this product. Product states you can harvest after 3 weeks and keep harvesting for four months, but only enough nutes for 2 months. Liquid nutes come need to m]be mixed well before used because some nutes turned into a solid in the corner in the small bag. Will update as time goes on. Average Rating:![]() |

AeroGarden 3-Pod Seed KitReviewsGave a three-pod system with a cherry tomato seed kit as a gift. Nowhere in the description was it mentioned that only ONE seed pod came with the kit! Feels like a big rip-off! Yes, the tomatoes will take up more space than a petunia, but the company should warn people that the tomato kit only has one plant. Considering the price, you can get a lot of tomatoes at the store! We have had a couple of these with our 3 pod garden. Recently bought the herb kit to grow. Of the three pods, the chives we a dud. Have had the cherry tomatos in the past with great results. Just a bit bummed that the pod failed to grow. I will try contacting Aerogarded. We bought our Aerogarden at Christmas. It is now May and we have a whopping one cherry tomato that is almost ripe. The tomato plant grew quickly and in fact the leaves keep getting burned by the grow light because it is so tall. There are some other blooms on the plant now but at this rate our regular outdoor garden will be producing before we get any tomatoes off of this. (We thought it would be a great way to get tomatoes during the winter). We did Basil in another Aerogarden and it did fine so maybe we just got a bad plant. When I read the description, I assumed there was 3 pods of seeds in the kit. I had bought these as a gift for Christmas and when the person opened them up, there was only one pod of seeds in them. The description is very bad and does not depict what you are really buying. When I opened this packaging, I was more than a little surprised to discover only ONE seed pod and two spacers. Not at all what I was expecting based on my experience with the prior sets I'd received for about the same price which included three seed pods and three spacers. Now I have to order two more in order to fully use my aerogarden?? And to second what another poster mentioned: nutrient packets had a LOT of moisture -- evidence of poor packaging and/or poor storage. Disappointed that I can't start my next crop.... Inca Inchi Oil - Peruvian Amazon Organic OilReviewsI couldn't enjoy the effects, because it turned out I was allergic to the product (it gave me hives), but I can say this -- it tastes *disgusting.* It's tastes like concentrated grass. Organic Sprouting Seeds Salad Mix 1 Pound Alfalfa, Clover, Radish, BroccoliReviewsGood quality seeds......a pound goes a long way. Nice combination of seeds. This combination does have a flavor zing. I don't know if its a radish or broccoli seeds that add the spicy flavor. Very tasty. Have started sprouting again and am enjoying these seeds. I use them in my salads and sandwiches. They add a good crunch and help with a flavor bite. The amount of radish seeds seem to give the right spice to the mixture. delicious mix, fast shipping, i weighed it when i got it and it was ever so slightly over a pound, so i'll buy again! I've just gotten back into sprouting again. This is the best seed product I've used yet. The seeds sprout quickly, are all fertile and produce great sprouts. Highly recommend. They grow well in my sprouter and the taste great. Sometimes I just eat them plain. Average Rating:![]() |

Organic Sprouting Seeds Rainbow Bean Mix 1 lbs Garbanzo, Green Pea, LentilReviewsOverall a nice blend, but given the different sizes of the seeds, the sprouting ratio was a bit mixed. Taste was good, might prefer the seeds not in a blend, which is what I will try the next time I buy seeds. Used them with the sprout house and it worked well. The sprouts available at the market are old and slimey by day 2. With these sprouts you can have them at your convenience and they are 100 times crunchier and healthier. Where I work we have a salad bar and I just take my own container of sprouts that I am so proud of. Truthfully, my 16 yr old grows them, I just pay for them and enjoy. I let these beans sprout for 3 days before I eat them as a snack. Very healthy. Average Rating:![]() |

I'm new to sprouting, and thought I would give these a try. I was very successful--great fun! What can I really say about seeds? They were shipping quickly and they grew To sprout your own seeds follow these easy steps 1) Soak the seeds overnight in warm water 2) Place the seeds in a strainer - place a saucer under the strainer - place a 1 lbs weight on the seeds, this is very important for quick growth, I usually full up a bowl with water to use a s a weight - place a towel over the strainer to keep out light - place in a well ventilated place 3)Rinse the seeds 3 times a day, and let them drip dry 4) after 3-4 days the seeds will push up the weight and will be bean sprouts 5) when they begin to grow leaves they are done, and place in the refrigerator to halt growth. - 1 ounce seeds, makes 1 lbs sprouts I sprouted these seeds and was surprised at how quickly they grew. I used them in a stir fry and also in an egg pancake. Very good. Seed to Seed: Seed Saving and Growing Techniques for Vegetable GardenersReviewsI disagree with the few poor reviews of this amazing book - it contains a wealth of knowledge and facts. The author and contributors have done an amazing job cataloging the research and facts that went into this book. It is a reference book, and therefore, not a start to finish read. I did read it mostly straight through and learned a lot, and I anticipate using it often as a reference. If you have any desire to save your garden vegetable seeds, buy this book and read it because it will teach you a lot you likely didn't know! This book is a must for anyone who wants to save themselves from the great starvation about to come. Good synthesis of information, although there is so much more that I want to grow. I really need a book like this for herbs and other "non-vegetables" because I kept wishing they were in here. For what it is, it is great. Nice to have recommendations for each region in the US. Seed to Seed: Seed Saving and Growing Techniques for Vegetable Gardeners I was in a hurry when I purchased this book, so I didn't really look it over. When it came to me I was disappointed in the presentation of it. It looked like a cheap copy of a book. I was expecting colorful picture & a crisp look to the ink print. It wasn't inviting to read. I'm also particular as to the formatting of the book and it just seems like it runs together vs sections. But that is my preference of reading style. Hopefully the information is good, I haven't tried any of it yet, I'm hoping to soon. This book is a well organized text on seed saving techniques and viability record keeping. Sparce photos are Black and White. I recommend this to anyone starting out with serious interest in saving our heirloom heritage crops for the hobbyist, homesteader, or beyond. Consider the source, however. I've only preserved heirloom pumpkin, bean and tomato seeds, as well as done my own viability testing before buying this book. But I do feel that this book has taken my "tinkering" to a new level of confidence to attempt much more. Average Rating:![]() |

Kristen Suzanne's EASY Raw Vegan Dehydrating: Delicious & Easy Raw Food Recipes for Dehydrating Fruits, Vegetables, Nuts, Seeds, Pancakes, Crackers, Breads, Granola, Bars & WrapsReviewsA great place to start and will give you a good direction. Did not follow her advise on the Excalibur though. I think until you use one and decide its a lifetime commitment a Good4U is a wiser choice. there are very few recipes in here, most of which you can find another variety of in other cook books for raw food recipes, skip it Fairly simple book, not overly long, but provides nice introduction to the multiple uses of a dehydrater. My only real complaints are that it gets a little too cutesy at times -- really, use of "yum" and "yummy" should be restrained to just once in a while, not every other page; and Kristen is just a little too all or nothing preachy in trying to convince readers to become vegan. I learned quite a bit from this book, and while I have cut way back on consumption of most animal based foods, there is still room for them in my diet. Given that, the information given was good and usable. I would recommend this to anyone just getting started in dehydrating. I bought two books in Kristen Suzanne's series and while the recipes look good, I have to agree with other reviewers who've pointed out how repetitive the series format is for these books. Almost the entire first half of each book is an introductory guide to the raw vegan lifestyle. Had these books been offered at half the price they are, this might have seemed an appropriate format for a series like this. But each one of these books is nearly as costly as other, more thorough books on preparing raw vegan food. Certainly once you've spent the money to buy a few of the books in this series, you should have something that amounts to more than an intro and the last few pages of each. I always get such great ideas from Kristen's books. I've used this one alot. I've had my dehydrator for awhile and don't use it that often, but since getting this book, I've been making more dehydrated goodies. I like the extra tips included in the book about dehydrating different types of foods and how to store them. Kristen is just so creative with her recipes and I've loved everything I've tried from this book. Another thing I like about Kristen's books is they are straightfoward and leave out all the fluff and unnecessary pictures. I know she did this to keep the books affordable and accessible, which I think is very cool. Not every raw fooder has $35 to spend on a cookbook, afterall. All in all, her books are a great value and loaded with original ideas and valuable information - I'd recommend them to anyone! Average Rating:![]() |

Living a Raw vegan lifestyle does NOT require dehydrating, which is why Kristen Suzanne's EASY Raw Vegan recipe books--other than this one--rarely call for dehydrating. But if you own a dehydrator, or if you are trying to decide whether or not to buy one, then this book is for you... |

Sprouts The Miracle Food: The Complete Guide to SproutingReviewsMy Amazon Wishlist has over 500 items, many of them books. I don't get to indulge myself as often as I would like, so when I make a purchase, it's pretty calculated and I only get to pick ONE item. That said, the book of choice has to be pretty special to be selected out of the very many that I am chomping at the bit to have. My books are cherished items. I like to have a good collection and my books are probably my only possessions that I won't part with. I don't care how worn and curled they get because I want to use them - ALOT. I am so on the fence about what to say about this book. It has been on my Wishlist for YEARS. Finally, I added it to the cart with great excitement, and that's where my excitement ended. When I began to read it, I actually found myself so disappointed and almost angry! This was not at all what I was hoping it would be! And, I'm not even sure I want it in my collection. I felt that if it was possible to 'return' a book, this one would be it. I thought, here's one for the yard sale.. In all fairness, I can at least appreciate what he has done and the info that he has compiled in his book, regardless of the fact that it was not really where I was wanting to go with it; not what I had hoped. In fact, I got so overwhelmed and confused that I shelved sprouting at all and will think about it next week.. For me, personally, I just want to grow some sprouts..a little at a time. I don't want baskets all over the place or racks or some indoor farm. When I have gone on [...] and/or checked out their videos on YouTube, it has served me perfectly for my needs and what I'm looking for right now. This is one occasion where I can say..I don't know folks..you might feel differently. Can't say I do or do not recommend. PS. Slightly off topic..but only because I wanted to voice a pet peeve.. IF (in particular) you are a 'somebody', a person who has made a name for yourself, PLEASE, please, please have a website that is actually worth a darn. [...] website is so poorly functional; it times out, takes forever to load or has messed up my computer all too much. It's a terrible website. If you care enough to be in business, by all means, your website is key. Oftentimes, I can order something from a company but because their website is lacking, I will order from Amazon instead (hopefully from the same company!). I purchase most everything from/through Amazon (for many reasons!), but if Amazon's website frustrated me in the least, that reason alone would not get my business. Basic sprouting here, its many benefits are told as they should be!! Buy this ,and get some seed, you are ready to go!! What ever kind of seed that You would want to possibly sprout is in here. The exact instructions on how to grow them too. Have fun ,and get healthier too, eat your sprouts, they are good for you! What a wonderful idea.A food that you can grow anywhere, does not even need light, dirt, only add some water, a little time, and You have fresh, organic food right where ever You are. If you want to know about growing sprouts, buy this book. Steve "Sproutman" Meyerowitz really knows his sprouts. Steve Meyerowitz, a.k.a. Sproutman has been sprouting since the 1970s, and owns a company selling sprouting equipment and seeds. I've read several of his books and chatted with him in person about sprouting. Sproutman knows his stuff, and IMO, anything he writes about sprouting is worth reading. I have grown magnificent sunflower sprouts by using a Sproutman Sprouthouse (a bamboo basket in a plastic house) and following Sproutman's instructions. If you have good sprouting seeds and follow the instructions in this book, I suspect you too will grow awesome sprouts. Unfortunately, the book is not that well organized and the instructions for sprouting, a fairly simple process, are unnecessarily confusing. There are many methods of growing sprouts, such as baskets, sprouting bags, glass jars, open-ended glass tubes with screens on both ends, trays, etc. This book gives instructions for only 3 methods: baskets, bags, and trays. Sproutman doesn't explain that upfront, however. If you want to use one of those 3 methods, the instructions are knowledgeable and detailed. BUT: I suggest that when you choose one of these methods, you read through the entire chapter first, because if you try to follow along step-by-step, it's easy to mess up. For example, in the chapter titled, "The Technique", Sproutman launches into instructions for using a sprouting basket, without first explaining that this technique just ONE of many sprouting methods. For this technique he says to soak 5 rounded tablespoons of seeds. He doesn't explain until 7 pages later that you use 5 tablespoons of seed for an 8 inch basket, 6 to 7 tablespoons of seed for a 9 inch basket, and 2 to 3 tablespoons of seed for a 6 inch basket. A beginning basket sprouter who tries to follow his instructions without reading the entire chapter first, could easily make the mistake of using the wrong amount of seeds for the basket size. In the next chapter, Sproutman gives instructions for how to use a sprout bag, a different technique. The first thing I would want to know about this is, what are the best seeds for growing in a sprout bag? That information is there, along with days 'til maturity-in the middle of the chapter. Another thing that's important to a good sprout book is information about seeds. What are the varities, the days until harvest, the uses and tastes, etc? There's chart near the end of the book which gives this information, but the seed varities are not in alphabetical order. I can't figure out any logic to the way the chart is sorted, so if you want to look up a seed variety, you have to read down the entire list. Also, there are some types of fairly popular sprouting seeds missing from the chart, for example, broccoli sprouts. Although I think most of Sproutman's information is excellent, albeit a bit disorganized, one thing I take issue with are his frequent sermons about why sprouting jars should not be used. I first used a sprouting jar in 1984, and my jar sprouts have always turned out just fine, without all those immature yellow sprouts Sproutman warns of. If you are careful not to use too many seeds and to shake your sprouts back and forth so they drain well and lay the jar on its side, your jar-sprouted sprouts will turn out just fine. Also Sproutman says a jar requires cheesecloth, screens and rubberbands. Back in 1984, a decade prior to the book's publication, I used a lid which was a plastic screen and have never had to hassle with cheesecloth, screens and rubberbands. In addition, he says automatic sprouters sell in the range of $450 to $1000. It's somewhat possible that information was accurate in the 1990s, but in the 2000s, one can find new automatic sprouters for a lot less than $450. Some of the book's strengths include the chapter discussing which type of water to use on sprouts, the nutritional information scattered throughout the books, and the presence of an index. I personally think the book's dumb puns are a strength, but I'm sure the majority of readers will not. :-) Despite my qualms with this book, Sproutman is outstanding in his field, and I still recommend it to anyone who wants to sprout via vertical sprouter (basket), bag, or tray, or learn about sprouting in general. If you're using either a vertical sprouter or a bag, I suggest first reading the succinct review of instructions on page 173 for the vertical sprouter and p. 175 for the sproutbag. This is a great book for a person who is interested in sprouting; it is very detailed and is truly full of very interesting and useful information. The book also helps to nullify a lot of the myth about toxins and hidden dangers in sprouts. The real dangers, in actuality, exist in cooked, processed, adulterated, toyed-with, sprayed, chemicalized, distorted foods (which our grocery shelves are full of). I am now 50 years old. Back in my youthful college days, I used to sprout a great deal, eating living foods exclusively. Though I stayed being a vegetarian, I got back into the cooked food craze... eating food like it was a drug for "taste" only. I work with the multiply handicapped and even though I am a teacher I have to do a lot of lifting (of adults who are not at all feather-weight). My arthritis (which runs in the family) was killing me, despite taking all kinds of natural and man made supplements. Getting back to live food was the answer I needed. Steve's book was inspirational and very helpful. I should have never deviated from what was truly the most nutritious way to eat! There are many ways of sprouting. I happen to like the sproutpeople.com sprouters best of all. Steve's book is a priceless tool for anyone interested in sprouting... it has all kinds of neat tips and suggestions. Also, one suggests doing a web search on Dr. Budwig's Diet... as most people are seriously deficient in essential fatty acids of the proper type. I take my oil with a little bit of live yogurt. Anyway... I would not want Steve's book, including his Kitchen Garden book... missing from my shelves! As Hippocrates said: "Let your food be your medicine, and your medicine be your food." Beethoven's 2ndReviewsI bought this as a gift to give my down syndrome niece. She has watched it so many times and she has favorite parts that make her laugh. Great movie. i just want to say that i know that my daughter will like this. she has them all on vhs. now that she has a dvd player she wanted me to get them on dvd's for her It's not often you can say a sequel is better than the original, but I prefer Beethoven's 2nd to the original. It's probably because I saw it at a certain age, what with Ryce discovering boys, I really identified with it. (Even though I couldn't get a boy to look twice at me back then.) This movie pretty much sticks to the same formula as the original, with Beethoven the main focus - Beethoven gets a girlfriend, Beethoven doesn't use contraception, Beethoven becomes a daddy, Beethoven becomes a single daddy, Beethoven gets girlfriend back. You've heard it all before haven't you? There's a couple of silly & forgettable subplots here - Missy's mistress (try saying that when you've had a couple!), Ryce's potential boyfriend, the brother's potential love interest, and the Newtons' air freshener thing. Really, there's not much else to say about it. It's a happy movie, it's sweet, and then you'll put it away until the next time you see a St Bernard. The movie is corny, implausible and poorly acted, but the puppies are incredibly cute! Little kids will love this movie if just for the puppies. If you have young children you want to keep entertained, Beethovens' 2nd will hold their attention. Afterwards, your kids will probably start bugging you to get them a puppy. Now that the lovable St. Bernard Beethoven is enjoying life with his new masters, the Newtons,he begins to start a family of his own, biologically. Beethoven impregnates a female St. Bernard named Missy and the canine couple sire four puppies. One of is named Tchaikovsky, after another late classical music great. First,George Newton(Charles Grodin) objects to Beethoven in the Newtons' home, then objects to the mutt's offsprings. The Newton family agreed to find homes for the puppies after they've grown. George's wife Alice(Bonnie Hunt) is now working with her husband at his air freshener factory. One memorable scene is where the Newtons take a vacation up in the mountains, with Beethoven in tow,of course. Missy belongs to a mean-spirited young woman named Regina(Debi Mazar) who is going through a divorce. After the divorce is final,Regina's now-ex-husband is granted sole custody of Missy. The ex-hubby and Missy visit the Newtons in the last scene. This film would one of Grodin's last. Subsequently,he co-starred with Martin Short in CLIFFORD. Grodin's previous films include SEEMS LIKE OLD TIMES,IT'S MY TURN,MIDNIGHT RUN and TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS. Average Rating:![]() |
